#554 1921 Meissen Porcelain medal on Re-establishment of Bishopric of Meissen in 1921. It was originally established in 967, but dissolved by protestants in 1539. Obv. Depicts patron saint of Meissen, Benno and the legend reads Pray for us, holly Benno. 50 mm brown with gilded trimmings and center designs. UNC

East Germany (1946-1990)
#555 1961 Pair of AR medals in original box of issue, commemorating Berlin as Capital f GDR, both have Brandenburg Gate on obverse, but under different angles and both have the same reverse. One medal, of 75.6 gram has Berlin- Capital of GDR on the cartouche over the Brandenburg Gate and the Coat of Arms of GDR with “For the Protection of Workers and Peasants” legend around it. The other, 79.6 gram has the same reverse, but on obverse the legend 13 August 1961 Berlin is Capital of German Democratic Republic. The box has a 105 mm x 145 mm lithograph signed by artist in pencil glued to it and the small plaque with “City Commandant of People’s Army for Capital of GDR, Berlin” below medals. #561 ND Meissen Porcelain plaque of Dr. Richard Sorge (1895-1944), a Soviet spy during WWII in original box of issue. He was caught in Japan, confessed under torture of spying for USSR, but Soviet Union had denied association. Despite triple offer of Japan to trade Sorge for one of their own spies in Soviet custody, USSR had declined it. He was executed and berried in Japan in 1944.
