Albert (1909-1934)
#551 1914 AE medal, silver plated to commemorate Belgian Gratitude for American Generosity by Godefroid Devreese (signed: G.DEVREESE obverse & reverse). Obv: LL. MM. ALBERT - ET ELIZABETH co-joined busts facing left. Rx: GENEROSITE AMERIQUE BELGIQUE - GRATITUDE / 1914 - Columbia gives wheat to Belgian family (much of Belgium's food was provided by a U.S. relief effort headed by future President Herbert Hoover). AU, silver plating did not lay evenly, 35mm, smooth rounded edge. There were definitely difficulties at the mint with silver plating of that particular medal. I have seen several of them with similar problems. XF
